  • After crews completed fuels reduction across nearly 700 acres to boost wildfire safety, Nelder Grove of Giant Sequoias reopened Jan. 1 in the Sierra National Forest; seasonal weather may affect access as fire crews continue limited pile burning.  KMPH

  • California’s DROP tool launched Jan. 1 to let residents request data deletion online at privacy.ca.gov; deletion requests from over 500 data brokers will be processed in August. This program gives locals more control over their personal information.  ABC30

HEALTH NEWS

  • St. Agnes in Fresno received a historic $13 million donation to upgrade its emergency department (expanding it to 40,000 sqft) with groundbreaking planned for 2027 as the hospital moves closer to its $20 million fundraising goal.  ABC30
  • Millions of Californians will pay higher premiums as tax credits expired at midnight when pandemic-era subsidies ended. Open enrollment remains through Jan. 31, letting residents explore coverage options (some plans may begin in Feb.).  ABC30
  • At Fresno’s Community Regional Medical Center, a newborn was delivered minutes after midnight on New Year’s. Andrea and Steven of Hanford then welcomed daughter Malaia (6 lbs, 18 inches) at Adventist Health Reedley at 1:22 a.m., and another baby was born at Clovis Community Medical Center at 2:18 a.m.  KMPH

  • Fresno public notices reveal several properties in default face trustee sales after failing to meet trust agreements.
