- ➤ Four GameStop stores in the Valley are set to close this month as part of the retailer’s plan to cut underperforming locations; the Porterville store shuts today while Selma and Madera locations close on Jan. 14 and a Fresno location will shut later this year. The Business Journal

- ➤ Westlands Water District board approved the report for a mega solar project on Fresno County's westside last month; the challenge period ends Jan. 17 and if approved, up to 136,000 acres will be turned into solar farms to generate 20+ gigawatts of electricity. GV Wire
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Caltrans will close the Highway 99 ramp at Cesar Chavez Boulevard today from 8:15 a.m. to 2 p.m. for repairs. It will also close the Highway 180 ramp tomorrow from 8:30 a.m. to noon (with tree trimming) and the ramp at Merced Street Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. GV Wire
- ➤ Fresno County installed its first HAWK Crossing light near Herndon-Barstow Elementary School yesterday with funding from the county, city, and Central Unified. The pedestrian-activated signal stays inactive until pressed to stop traffic and let people cross safely. KMPH
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Fresno Unified replaced its self-funded health care plan for retirees with Medicare Advantage, transferring decision-making to a private insurer. Retired teacher Larry Moore warned the change might set a precedent for further shifts in local control (the public plan had saved $132 million). GV Wire
- ➤ Retired Fresno Unified educators using Medicare lost coverage after Aetna, Community Medical Centers, and Community Health Partners failed to extend their contract before Dec. 31 — the district is evaluating alternative plans while emergency care remains available. The Business Journal
