- ➤ Fresno firefighters answered a call over the weekend when an oven fire damaged cupcakes meant for a little girl's birthday celebration. Engine 12 later surprised her with a cake — decorated in purple and pink — to keep the party going. ABC30
- ➤ An online auction featuring 23 custom skateboard deck paintings by inmates at the Substance Abuse Treatment Facility in Corcoran is live on eBay to fund new skateboards and safety gear for local youth. Bidding will close Sunday, Jan. 25 at 2 p.m. KMPH
- ➤ Fresno nonprofits that support women and children can apply for the Central California Women’s Conference’s Nené Casares Community Grants until Jan. 31 at 11:59 p.m. Grants will be distributed in April during the Nené Casares Celebration of Service (the conference has donated over $1.75 million in 36 years). - ➤ Fresno Yosemite International Airport hit a record in 2025 by serving over 2,752,000 passengers—a nearly 3% rise from 2024 with a 4% boost in international travel, and it added twice-daily nonstop service to San Diego; new dining options from Mad Duck and Los Amigos Mexican Restaurant will open in February. - ➤ A Fresno State journalist said she got several parking tickets while driving her pink 2018 Mazda 6 near campus media spots. The ticketing differences have raised concerns about unclear parking rules and limited options for students and staff. The Collegian
- ➤ Professor Barri Brennan (placed on leave in September after remarking on Charlie Kirk) has returned to teaching at Fresno State. The university has not provided further comment on his return. The Collegian
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Fresno leaders met with local employers to announce an expansion of a job program designed to help public assistance recipients secure full-time work. The initiative connects participants with training and wage reimbursements to ease hiring costs (County Economic Development). ABC30
- ➤ Fresno County Recorder Paul Dictos is using a different reading of a 2017 law to charge a $75 fee on every property sale (instead of one per transaction) that has generated $54 million for affordable housing and may bring more funds for local projects. GV Wire
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Effective Feb. 15, Adventist Health will end its contract with Santé Health, affecting 2,600 patients in Fresno and Kings counties. Patients on HMOs, Medi-Cal, or Medicare Advantage may need to switch plans or travel for care, and Santé will assist with transitions (a decision that surprised the providers). GV Wire
- ➤ A study published this week in Environmental Science & Technology found children had up to 23% higher autism risk when mothers were exposed to wildfire smoke during the third trimester, based on records from over 200,000 births. The risk rose with more smoky days. KMJ Now

- ➤ Fresno Housing secured $25 million in federal and state tax credits Tuesday to convert a former emergency shelter (1415 W. Olive Ave.) into 63 affordable studio apartments with community amenities in the Parkway Drive area. Construction will begin this summer as part of local revitalization efforts. GV Wire
