COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Fresno will spotlight Southeast Asian business owners with a pilot research study airing today, aiming to assess their needs and boost local growth. The study recognizes the area's large Hmong community (the second-largest in the nation) as a key demographic.  KVPR

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Wednesday, Feb. 4, authorities investigated a structure fire at a California high-speed rail construction site on Church and Sunland avenues in southeast Fresno — firefighters faced fog challenges while 20 workers were on site and no injuries were reported.  ABC30

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Fresno State Alumni Association is hosting the Bulldogs Helping Bulldogs clothing drive until Feb. 13 at the Smittcamp Alumni House — community members may donate gently used professional attire to support the class of 2026 with free items available at Grad Fest in March.  The Collegian

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Fresno County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office is asking for help to locate the family of Antonio Garcia Gonzalez, 56 (who passed away recently in a Selma nursing home) so his body can be properly released for burial.  GV Wire
  • Residents in Merced, Mendota, Orosi, and Madera can get new or renewed passports and consular IDs through the Mexican Consulate’s mobile service offered at local nonprofit offices. The service runs today in Merced (9 a.m. to 3 p.m.) and will continue on upcoming dates through Feb.26.  GV Wire

HEALTH NEWS

  • Fresno-based fitness trainer Rhonda Murphy hosted Workout Wednesday (showing how to exercise without special equipment) on Feb. 4, offering residents simple routines they can try at home.  ABC30
  • Blue Shield cut ties with local hospitals at the start of this month, leaving many members including Fresno resident Karen Hawkins (who is battling stage 4 brain cancer) at risk of losing her established care as she prepares for an MRI next week.  KMPH
  • Community Health System has reached an agreement with Aetna to restore benefits for over 6,000 Fresno Unified retirees, with coverage maintained until Feb. 20 – the new contract holds until Dec. 31 and a new plan for 2027 is also available.  ABC30

  • Fresno’s top date-night choices for Valentine’s Day are The Annex Kitchen (624 E. Olive Ave), Elbow Room (731 W. San Jose Ave) and Willow Osteria (851 W. Olive Ave). Reservations will be needed as these popular spots offer distinct dining choices for couples.  The Collegian

  • Fresno State women's golf team begins its spring season with tournaments including Soboba Classic (Feb. 4-6), San Diego State Classic on Feb. 9, and Fresno State Classic on March 2 at Fort Washington Golf and Country Club as it builds momentum for a move to the Pac-12.  The Collegian
  • The California Wrestling Association will present 'Pride of the Valley' at the Iron Office Gym this weekend in Fresno, offering local fans an evening of intense wrestling matches. All eyes will be on the ring as top local wrestlers perform live.  ABC30
