COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Wild Waters Adventure Park is asking Fresno residents to vote on a new name for its endless river ride designed for family adventure. The park offers five choices—Lost River Adventure, Rainforest River, Lost Lagoon River, Jungle River, and Emerald River Run—with the winning name announced soon.  KMPH
  • After a winter storm last week, a falling tree hit power lines at Hume Lake Christian Camp in Fresno County, causing a cabin fire and over $1 million in damage with no injuries. The camp is asking for public help to restore the facility (80 years old) before summer.  KMJ Now
  • Students at Justin Garza High School gathered 15,000 meals for shipment to Southeast Asia on Sunday as part of a partnership with Rise Against Hunger and North Fresno Rotary; they also raised over $6,000 to support the project.  ABC30
  • Fresno County Sheriff's Office held a youth academy home run derby in Raisin City on Monday, Feb. 23 to raise funds for cadets' uniforms and competitions. Volunteers and former cadets supported the event & celebrated its impact on local youth programs.  ABC30

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • An 18-year-old Clovis teen almost died in a fog-related crash on Jan. 16 when her van hit a semi-truck near the Minnewawa and Shepherd intersection and has since made significant progress in physical therapy with strong family and community support.  ABC30

  • An Aeroméxico flight from Guadalajara landed in Fresno Monday night, marking the first sign that international service is slowly recovering after recent cancellations linked to security concerns in Mexico. Fresno Yosemite International Airport said more flights will operate Tuesday as partners adjust schedules.  KMPH

  • Streamer CaseOh unwrapped a giant 7-foot plush doll made by Clovis creator Crochet Ginger on his live stream Monday, Feb. 23. The handcrafted piece took 130 hours to complete — a project highlighting local creative talent.  KMPH
  • The Fresno Chaffee Zoo held its fourth annual Black History Month celebration (Art in Action: A Journey of Healing, Expression and Hope) on Saturday. Families enjoyed live entertainment, tasty treats from food trucks and free books from nonprofit Reading Heart.  ABC30

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Fresno Unified's board is set to vote Wednesday on potential layoffs, a new classroom cellphone policy (with exceptions) and a resolution opposing Fresno's SEDA plan amid a projected $59 million deficit. The decisions could affect staffing and enrollment for the 2026/27 school year.  Fresnoland

  • Assemblywoman Esmeralda Soria introduced AB 2010 to expand high-volume spay-neuter services with mobile MASH clinics to reach rural areas during National Spay Neuter Awareness Month, aiming to reduce shelter overcrowding and ease the pet overpopulation crisis (especially where access is limited).  KMPH
