  • Fresno honored nine local women Wednesday during its annual Women of the Year ceremony at City Hall to celebrate their leadership and community impact for Women’s History Month. Each honoree received an honorary city day on March 18.  KMPH

BUSINESS NEWS

  • GrubPub is hosting a soft opening at R and Inyo streets in downtown Fresno, offering four eateries with a bar that will open soon. The venue is open daily from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and plans a grand opening event in April.  ABC30

CULTURE NEWS

  • Abuse allegations against Cesar Chavez have sparked debate over local institutions bearing his name (including Fresno's Cesar Chavez Boulevard, parks, schools, and libraries across the Central Valley) as community groups reassess his legacy and cancel related celebrations.  ABC30

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Fresno State is set to open an 83,000 sqft apartment-style dorm complex in Fall with a dedicated wing for parent scholars and upperclassmen. The $59 million project features full kitchens and community spaces with rates starting at $10,634 (for a double).  The Collegian
  • Fresno State students say joining a sorority builds networks that offer mentorship and leadership opportunities for academic and personal growth. The organizations honor a feminist legacy that began in the mid-19th century when women fought for access to education.  The Collegian

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Jan. 25, the City of Fresno launched the Youth Scholarship Program funded by $50,000 from Measure P to help youth under 17 cover sports expenses; city leaders noted that high costs keep many families from accessing competitive club sports.  The Collegian
