  • Fresno Council on Child Abuse Prevention will hold its annual convening on April 8 at Sunnyside Country Club to discuss ways to stop mistreatment and neglect + executive director Esther Franco said the event is part of Child Abuse Prevention Month.  ABC30
  • Registration is open for Great American Cleanup, an event celebrating America's 250th birthday. The city is hosting 25 cleanup and beautification sites, including Tower District and Woodward Park, on Saturday, April 18 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.—participants receive a free t-shirt and invitation to an outdoor thank you party.  ABC30
  • The Clovis Rodeo Association warns locals about online scams offering fake vendor opportunities for the rodeo, which runs April 22 — 26. It urges people to use only official channels and avoid sending payments or personal information.  KMPH

  • PG&E is flying drones in Fresno County for the next three weeks to inspect poles, power lines, and transformers as part of a safety check for the electric grid. The company said only its equipment will be photographed (pilots with reflective vests are on site).  KMPH

  • Fresno film fans heard Tuesday about a chance to meet cast members from The Sandlot (celebrated for its improvised lines) as details from a local interview confirmed a special event in the city soon.  ABC30
  • Classic rock legends Gene Simmons, Sebastian Bach, Lita Ford and Quiet Riot will perform at the Save Mart Center on Friday, July 17. Tickets go on sale this Friday, Mar. 27 (10 a.m.).  ABC30

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Airlines are raising ticket prices amid rising jet fuel costs caused by the war in the Middle East, with United Airlines canceling off-peak flights to manage expenses, and experts say fares may increase about 20% (as jet fuel now costs over $4 per gallon versus $2.50 earlier).  ABC30

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On March 18, Fresno State's 24-hour Day of Giving raised a record $803,173, surpassing last year's total by 31% and drawing donations from 44 states and 13 countries to support student programs.  GV Wire

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Cal Fire warned that record-high March heat is speeding snowmelt in the mountains and raising wildfire risks, prompting local crews to use prescribed burns to create fuel-breaks. The agency advised residents to clear defensible space as fire season approaches.  KMPH

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Bureau of Reclamation increased water allocation to 20% from 15% for south-of-Delta contractors, with 222,000 acre-feet available plus 94,000 acre-feet as drought reserve, but Westlands officials say the boost is insufficient amid rapid Sierra snowpack melt and extended dry forecasts.  GV Wire

  • California state leaders and farmworker advocates announced AB 2082 Tuesday to supply free menstrual hygiene products (a vital health need) to rural female farmworkers near Fresno. If passed, the bill will move to the governor's desk later this year and begin in July 2027.  ABC30

  • The commission voted five to one to remove historic protection from the old Forever 21 building at Fashion Fair Mall on East Shaw Avenue, letting developers plan a new Dick's Sporting Goods House of Sport concept that could open by 2027 — a key move for the mall's redevelopment.  KMPH
