- ➤ The Madera Elks Lodge served a $15 tri tip lunch Sunday to raise funds for the family of 29 year old Erick Velazquez, who was fatally shot inside a Madera Walgreens on March 31 — authorities say Narciso Fernandez is accused of the murder and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 6. ABC30
- ➤ Fresno Police say that on Saturday evening a couple (in their early 20s) was shot while parked near Delmar and Griffith avenues; they drove to an In-N-Out on Blackstone and Ashlan avenues where police took them to a local hospital and both remain in stable condition. Your Central Valley
- ➤ A Fresno city employee identified as 57-year-old Tim Smith, who has worked for the city for 20 years, was viciously attacked on Friday near Kern and G Streets in Chinatown when 30-year-old Dyllan Padavona hit him in the head and was arrested shortly after near Santa Clara Street and Van Ness Avenue. - ➤ A federal grand jury indicted 51-year-old Felipe Ruiz of Fresno and 52-year-old Jose Gabriel Aguirre of Clovis for allegedly conspiring to commit Medicare skin graft fraud — Ruiz, a podiatrist at West Coast Podiatry Inc. who bought grafts from Aguirre, a sales representative without a license, billed Medicare and Medi-Cal for procedures he did not perform in a scheme that earned millions — and if convicted, they could face up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine, prosecutors said.
