  • Cuevas Sound Spectrum, a Fresno based woman owned business, offers tailored music lessons for students with autism and intellectual and developmental disabilities to help them express their feelings. Founded by Lena Cuevas, the business uses music therapy principles and local partnerships to provide free introductory lessons and recitals — a program that has received local praise — as a resource for students and their families.  The Business Journal

  • Paris Baguette celebrated the grand opening of its Fresno cafe at Villaggio Shopping Center on Saturday; the bakery is known for its self-serve pastry cases. Founders Nikki and Anvar Tulyag will open a second location later this year at El Paseo Shopping Center—transferring nearly 50 staff members.  The Business Journal

  • A 56-year-old Fresno City employee, Tim Smith, who worked for the city for 20 years, remains in critical condition after he was attacked in Chinatown near Kern and G Streets on Friday morning when 30-year-old Dyllan Padavona hit him while fixing an electrical box—officers later arrested Padavona near Santa Clara and Van Ness.  KMJ Now
  • On Sunday, April 13, Fresno CHP tried to stop a Honda Civic that took a stop sign for a joy ride through city streets before using a PIT maneuver to end the chase and arrest the driver for DUI charges.  KMPH
  • A Fresno City employee named Tim Smith, 56, who worked for 20 years, was viciously attacked by 30-year-old Dyllan Padavona on Friday morning near Kern and G Streets while working alone on an electrical box, and police later arrested Padavona near Santa Clara Street and Van Ness Avenue as Smith remains in critical condition.  KMJ Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed legislation Monday to close a $2.8 billion Medicaid funding gap and keep coverage for 15 million residents—including immigrants—in the state, with matching federal funds unlocking coverage through June. Lawmakers say the move comes as rising costs and potential federal cuts add pressure to the budget.  GV Wire
  • Fresno city has launched one of its biggest road improvement efforts this year with a $32 million program to pave 50 miles of streets. The projects will include 26 paving jobs covering 25 miles and five major street repairs on over 3 miles — funded by Measure C, the state gas tax, and federal ARPA grants.  GV Wire
  • Fresno County District Attorney Lisa Smittcamp started a fentanyl awareness campaign today with 50 billboards from Firebaugh to Selma that warn selling fentanyl may result in murder charges—coming after Cassidy Gonzales was found guilty of selling a deadly dose—while officials work to lower overdose numbers.  ABC30
