CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Loose dogs killed cats and damaged property repeatedly in Selma; one neighbor said her cat died in February when a dog attacked her on the way home from the gym (residents report a near-daily problem) and local authorities said they respond to calls as they come in. KMPH
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Associated Students, Inc. presidential debate is set for Friday, Apr. 17 at 12 p.m. in the Satellite Student Union, where candidates Maris Prado, Alya Hassan, and Madison Cañon will share plans to boost student engagement (ASI election results will be announced on April 23). The Collegian
- ➤ Fresno Unified’s Edison High School achieved the second-highest acceptance rate in California for UC Berkeley last year by admitting 21 students out of 62 with a 34-percent rate, and Superintendent Misty Her said the results show strong school support and family help in overcoming significant barriers. - ➤ On Tuesday, April 14, Bass Lake officials advised campers to secure food after a bear was seen dumpster diving at the south shore (no cub spotted). Campgrounds offer bear lockers for safe food storage. KMPH

- ➤ The California Water Resources Control Board’s GEARS system went down Monday, complicating groundwater pumping reports for farmers in Kings and Tulare counties ahead of a May 1 deadline. The agency scheduled workshops later this week to help landowners comply with the new rules. GV Wire
