COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Terry’s House received an anonymous $2.5 million gift on Tuesday to support families of critical-care patients at Community Regional Medical Center located across the street—this endowment funding will cover operational costs and marks the largest CHS donation, according to CEO Craig Wagoner.  GV Wire

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A man identified as Gurminder Singh, 31, died on Monday after being hit by two vehicles while walking eastbound on Manning Avenue near Englehart at about 8:30 p.m.—the first collision involved a Hyundai Elantra and the second a Honda Accord, according to CHP officials.  KMJ Now
  • Early Monday morning, Fresno police responded to a traffic collision near Chestnut Avenue south of Olive Avenue in southeast Fresno where 42-year-old Victor Thomas Jr. was hit by a vehicle and later died during surgery—Fresno County Coroner’s Office identified him on Tuesday and investigators are looking into the crash.  Your Central Valley

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Faculty and students at Stanislaus State held a mock funeral after 18 employees received layoff notices in March amid a systemwide funding gap of $218 million—this protest drew attention to planned course and staff reductions at campuses across the CSU system. Fresno State now reports a $19 million deficit leading to $4.2 million in cuts, and CSU Bakersfield faces a $12 million shortfall as officials work to adjust spending for lower enrollment.  KVPR
  • The Fresno Unified Board of Education will announce a finalist for its next superintendent today at around 6 p.m. — replacing Bob Nelson who left for Fresno State last spring — and will hold a press conference afterward to outline next steps in the transition.  ABC30

  • ABC Owned Television Stations is airing the 'ourHome: Earth Month' special on streaming channels this week to show conservation work near Fresno, including scientists using solar panels on canals to save water & produce power. The half-hour show also features segments on zero-waste fashion and stormwater projects from other cities & points to new ideas for protecting natural resources.  ABC30

  • Fresno Assemblyman Joaquin Arambula will host a town hall meeting tomorrow from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the River Center—11605 Old Friant Road—to rally opposition against CEMEX’s proposed blast mine on the San Joaquin River, which critics warn could harm water quality, wildlife, and local infrastructure.
