  • FISH Fund by Indian Subcontinent Heritage announced that the Boys and Girls Clubs of Fresno County will benefit from its annual gala on Sept. 6 at Pardini's Catering and Banquets; the funds will expand the Phoenix Program to help 260 more local youth learn about drug safety and life skills.  The Business Journal
  • Dozens of Valley veterans flew from Fresno Yosemite International Airport to Washington, D.C. on Monday for the 31st Central Valley Honor Flight—visiting memorials and Arlington National Cemetery before returning Wednesday—when they will be greeted with a hero's welcome at the airport.  ABC30

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Governor Newsom has proposed a $375 million—7.95%—cut to the state General Fund appropriation for CSU for the upcoming fiscal year, a move Fresno State says may force the closure of entire universities. The proposed cuts could remove thousands of faculty positions and nearly 20,000 courses, which may harm students and the local economy.  Your Central Valley
  • U.S. Senator Adam Schiff will speak at Fresno City College's commencement on May 23 at 6:30 p.m.—nearly 3,000 students will graduate, marking the first time in the college's 115-year history that a senator addresses its graduates.  GV Wire

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Roadwork at two key intersections around Fresno Yosemite International Airport begins Monday, April 28 through May 1—Chestnut, McKinley, and Peach Avenues will see lane reductions, closures, and detours via Cedar, Clovis, and Peach streets as repaving takes two days per intersection. Travelers should plan additional time while crews finish the repairs.  KMPH
