COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Downtown Fresno Partnership announced that the Market on Kern will return this season with longer hours, running Wednesdays from May through October at 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. along Kern Street near the Convention Center—temperatures must stay below 105 degrees. Fresno Mayor Jerry Dyer will deliver opening remarks while 25 vendors offer produce, baked goods, and handcrafted items with themed market days planned.  GV Wire
  • Since opening its new Isnardi Foundation Building in northwest Fresno in February, the Marjaree Mason Center has seen more survivors of domestic violence use services such as counseling, prenatal care, and a children’s Enrichment Center. In the past 30 days, hotline calls have risen and its emergency shelter has been at capacity for six weeks + the center continues to add support to meet growing demand.  ABC30

CRIME NEWS

  • Clovis Police released still photos+surveillance video of a suspect in the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Caleb Quick outside a Clovis McDonald’s on April 23 just before 9 p.m., and the suspect, seen fleeing in a white Tesla Model 3+ remains unidentified as investigators have not determined a motive.  KMJ Now
  • A woman was hospitalized after being shot late Thursday near an apartment complex in northwest Fresno when two suspects approached the vehicle where she and her boyfriend were selling merchandise + police said the incident occurred after 10 p.m. near Palo Alto and Milburn.  ABC30
  • Clovis police released images of a suspect in the deadly shooting outside a McDonald's on Willow and Nees avenues that on April 23 left 18-year-old Caleb Quick fatally shot—police described the suspect as a light-skinned White or Hispanic male between 5 ft 10 in and 6 ft tall who fled in a 2024 or newer white Tesla Model 3 and are now asking for tips.  ABC30

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Fresno Unified appointed Misty Her as superintendent with an annual salary of $385,500 that includes a one-time bonus of 2.5% and additional benefits + travel pay, 12 sick days and 25 vacation days. Community members voiced outrage at Wednesday’s meeting because new teacher salaries are around $68,000 while the average is $138,269 + many called for a review of the pay scales.  GV Wire

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Fresno Mayor Jerry Dyer said the proposed mega-development SEDA is losing support from the city council because it would force residents to pay nearly $1.5 billion for new water and sewer lines. Dyer proposed moving forward with only the smaller South SEDA area—an industrial zone needing fewer upgrades—while officials debate if private financing can cover the high costs—leaving a divided path for the project.  Fresnoland
