  • Fresno City Council approved the updated Costco project after a revised greenhouse gas analysis cleared the way. Costco will move from Shaw to Herndon and Riverside Drive, with commission + council hearings set for May 21 as Mayor Dyer praised its strong local investment.  ABC30
  • Reedley entrepreneur Mandy Pena (CEO of Simply Mandys) set a new milestone by generating over $1 million in live TikTok Shop sales in a single session during a birthday sale in April. Her business, housed in a former bank building downtown, plans to expand with a new warehouse soon.  KMPH

  • 26 scholarships (including nine in memory of Janessa Ramirez) were awarded to deserving Central Unified students at the annual Foundation for Central Schools Scholarship Awards ceremony yesterday in Fresno, celebrating 10 years of honoring student achievement.  ABC30

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Residents spotted a bear cub in a northwest Fresno neighborhood on Thursday morning near Isla Avenue plus Herndon and West Avenues. Police and Fish and Wildlife responded but later could not locate the animal.  KMPH

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Costco is set to relocate from Shaw Ave. to northwest Fresno after the Planning Commission recommended the project to City Council for consideration on May 21. If approved, the new site will cover 22.4 acres (including a 220,000 sqft warehouse, 32 gas pumps and a car wash) and boost commerce.  The San Joaquin Valley Sun
  • Fresno Planning Commission unanimously recommended relocating Costco from Shaw Avenue to a site near El Paseo while exempting it from nearly $40 million in developer fees; the project will go to City Council on May 21 for a final vote (critics question the mitigation approach).  Fresnoland
