- ➤ A 21-year-old Fresno resident, Khushmeet Mahal, died in a fiery crash on May 9 when her speeding BMW launched and landed in a city work yard at the intersection of Friant and Shepherd in northeast Fresno—police have not said if drugs or alcohol were factors. KMJ Now

- ➤ Clovis police and Alcoholic Beverage Control agents cited three individuals for furnishing alcohol to a minor during a shoulder tap operation on Tuesday — one driver was arrested for DUI — and the citations carry a minimum $1,000 fine and 24 hours of community service. GV Wire
- ➤ Substitute teacher Carlos Gonzalez, a 43-year-old for Fresno Unified, was arrested after police identified a second child victim of his online contact for sexual purposes (he faces charges including sending harmful material to a minor and attempting to meet a child for sexual activity). - ➤ Fresno Mayor Jerry Dyer unveiled his $2.36 billion budget on May 14th to close a $50 million gap by cutting spending—setting a 6.18% vacancy rate for departments and reducing trolley rides while adding four new police officers through FAX funds. The plan also calls for leasing older vehicles and a police helicopter, starting new projects like a 911 communication center and fire station, with the city council set to review the budget beginning June 2. - ➤ CalFire's new C-130 air tanker T-122 has boosted wildfire response in Fresno by being deployed to seven fires since its arrival nine days ago. - ➤ Community Health System and affiliated Physician Network Advantage Inc. agreed yesterday to pay $31.5M to settle alleged kickback violations for offering perks to Fresno doctors following a DOJ investigation. The settlement includes a five-year oversight plan, will require PNA to end operations on Aug. 31, and awards $5M to whistleblower Michael Turpening — all to improve compliance measures.
