  • A large, bright ball of light streaked across Fresno on May 15 at 12:37 a.m. as captured by a local's security camera (the cause remains unconfirmed).  KMPH

CULTURE NEWS

  • Castle Air Museum in Atwater is hosting its Spring Open Cockpit Day on Saturday, May 23 with gates opening at 8:30 a.m. Visitors can view the restored B-52 Stratofortress along with historic bombers and enjoy live music and a beer garden.  KMPH

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Fresno near $6 per gallon today as a GasBuddy survey (364 stations) shows an increase of 29.5 cents from last month, with the cheapest station charging $5.45 and the priciest $6.99.  KMPH

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Trinity Steiner, a Justin Garza High School senior battling chronic pain for over ten years and recovering from a September car accident that sidelined her water polo season, will graduate today and attend Fresno City College to study U.S. history and continue coaching, proving her resilience.  ABC30
  • Interpreters on temporary assignment at Phoenix Secondary Academy (5320 E. Church Ave.) in southeast Fresno reported a student threatening staff with violent actions and urged the district to act, while the district has launched an investigation and staff have resorted to using unpaid leave for safety.  GV Wire

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Voters in the Central San Joaquin Valley are seeing redistricting changes on their sample ballots following Proposition 50 approved in November. Residents in Clovis and Madera must review their new congressional districts to know which issues matter most to their families (some districts now include areas from different counties).  KMPH
  • On June 11, Arte Américas will host a panel discussion on Fresno's shifting power dynamics as local leaders discuss affordable housing, public health, and policy reforms (part of the California 175 series). Fresnoland founder Danielle Bergstrom will moderate the event.  Fresnoland
  • On Thursday, Fresno City Council will review a proposal to create an Entertainment District in the Brewery District that would allow street drinking during events such as ArtHop.   • PG&E issued planned power shutoffs on Monday amid high fire danger from strong winds, affecting about 300 customers in Fresno County (and around 150 in Merced County) before most power was restored by Monday afternoon.  ABC30

  • Fresno State Gibson Farm Market welcomed customers Monday morning at 8 a.m. on Chestnut and Barstow to buy sweet corn at 37 cents per ear+ the corn, first planted in January, will supply the market through August.  ABC30
