CRIME NEWS

  • Police arrested a man on Monday on suspicion of driving under the influence and gun charges after pulling him over for a traffic violation near Inyo and O streets in downtown Fresno, and officers found a loaded handgun during their vehicle inventory.  GV Wire
  • On May 19, a 45-year-old man was arrested after a high-speed chase that began when a deputy spotted his stolen pickup on Clovis Avenue near McKinley—he later crashed in a rail construction zone near Belmont and Ferris in central Fresno and was taken to the hospital as a precaution.  ABC30
  • A man was arrested after a high-speed chase and crash in central Fresno that started a little after 3 a.m. on northbound Clovis Avenue near McKinley when a deputy spotted a stolen pickup truck—he was not hurt, taken to a hospital as a precaution and will be booked into Fresno County jail.  KMJ Now
  • A woman was arrested in Clovis on Sunday after starting a large vegetation fire near Armstrong Avenue and Highway 180 that scorched several acres without damaging nearby buildings—Diana Rivas, 35, now faces three counts of arson and one count of attempted arson—and she was booked into Fresno County Jail.  GV Wire

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Nayeli Prado, a Strathmore High School senior (the first in her family to attend college), received the prestigious Gates Scholarship and will attend UCLA, which helps cover college costs not met by other aid. She plans to return to her hometown as an immigration attorney and earned praise from her teacher for her hard work.  KMPH
  • Former NFL player Robert Golden founded Golden Charter Academy in Fresno in 2021 as a unique K-8 school that teaches environmental literacy through hands-on projects with the Fresno Chaffee Zoo— the school, which includes programs like tree planting and a free farmers’ market, received the City of Fresno’s Youth Leader Award from Mayor Jerry Dyer at the recent State of the City event and has more than 600 students on its waitlist.  The Business Journal

  • Fresno firefighters asked local residents to fill the boot — collecting donations at the Blackstone and Nees intersection from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday morning — to support the Muscular Dystrophy Association and help families affected by muscular dystrophy, ALS and related neuromuscular diseases.  ABC30

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A groundbreaking ceremony in Downtown Fresno marked the start of construction on The Mosaic at 1840 Broadway—an affordable housing project for working individuals that will have 25 studio and one-bedroom units. The project, partially funded by $4.7M in pandemic recovery funds, will finish by the end of November so tenants can move in by the new year.  ABC30
