  • Fresno State's sweet corn will be on sale today at Gibson Farm Market (Chestnut and Barstow) with yellow corns priced at 49 cents per ear as white and bi-color varieties are expected next week. The market will also offer extra hours for Memorial Day weekend.  KMJ Now

CRIME NEWS

  • Fresno police arrested Andy Ramos on Thursday after he confessed to shooting a man on Mother’s Day near Belmont and First at about 7:20 p.m., and they said the victim is stable at Community Regional Medical Center — Ramos is charged with attempted homicide.  Your Central Valley

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Forty high school students graduated from Valley ROP's wildland firefighter training ceremony today, wearing rugged gear instead of traditional caps and gowns & preparing for fire season. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Fresno City Council took no action on a proposal to ease office-to-housing conversions during a two-hour hearing Thursday and will vote on it at the June 12 meeting—supporters say it could add 2,600 housing units while critics worry it reduces public oversight. The council also approved measures to help veterans start businesses and to form a board for building code appeals—steps that reflect broader efforts to address local needs.  GV Wire
  • California housing regulators revoked Fresno's Prohousing designation at a Thursday City Council meeting for not meeting key housing goals—Mayor Jerry Dyer said the city has a plan to regain the status but warned the process may take months as new proposals await council approval.  Fresnoland

HEALTH NEWS

  • The northeast Fresno cCare Center will hold its second Survivor Day Celebration on June 28 at its facility on Millbrook and Herndon. The event will offer community resources, meditation stations, and screenings for cancer patients and their loved ones (all are welcome regardless of their experience).  ABC30
  • The Fresno County Department of Behavioral Health said it received $67 million in round 1 grants from the California Behavioral Health Infrastructure Bond Act of 2024 on Friday to fund three projects aimed at expanding local mental health services—additional local awards bring total funding to $121.3 million and include a $29.7 million award to boost the Community Behavioral Health Center’s psychiatric beds from 73 to 107, with construction set to finish by the end of 2028.  The Business Journal

  • The Fresno State Bulldogs won a 14-inning game on Friday by beating Nevada 12-7 to keep their back-to-back Mountain West title hopes alive. The Bulldogs will play in the championship game today at 12:05 p.m. — while Nevada faces San Jose State to decide who earns a spot in the next matchup.  The Collegian
