  • Fresno celebrated a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday morning at Roeding Park for the grand reopening of two renovated tot lots near the Fresno Chaffee Zoo. City officials said the updates include new jungle gyms, soft flooring, and shaded seating—funded by Measure P—and noted plans for further park improvements.  GV Wire
  • Yesterday, a ribbon-cutting ceremony opened Naomi's House in Downtown Fresno, a renovated facility with 30 beds for transitional housing that offers a full kitchen, private showers, laundry room, and educational space (with plans to add a community garden and on-site clinic) for up to 90 days to support unhoused women.  ABC30

CRIME NEWS

  • Bodycam footage shows a Fresno officer fired at a knife-wielding suspect who held a woman hostage near Shields Avenue at the FAX transit center — the suspect, Joanna Lopez, was shot and later died while the officer was placed on paid administrative leave as the case was turned over to the District Attorney's office.  ABC30

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Fresno Unified School District announced that beginning June 16, free meals will be provided at 90 school sites from Monday to Friday between 11 am and 1 pm to children ages one to 18—regardless of which school they attend. The program is designed to help ensure that kids do not go hungry during the summer months.  ABC30

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • General is a three-year-old bilingual rescue pup (weighing about 85 pounds) available for adoption through Mell's Mutts in Fresno (fixed, vaccinated and skilled in English and Spanish commands); prospective adopters must submit an application to match him with the right home.  GV Wire

  • Trans athlete Ab Hernandez tied for first in the high jump with 9 points, placed second in the long jump with 8 points and won the triple jump with 10 points and a mark of 42 ft 2 in at the CIF Championship Finals on Sunday—all scores were posted on the CIF website.  KMPH
  • Fresno State’s season ended with an 8-3 loss to UC Irvine in an elimination game at the Los Angeles Regional on Saturday. Starter Aidan Cremarosa allowed early home runs that gave the Anteaters control of the game (the Bulldogs finished the season 31-29).  Your Central Valley
