ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A Ford Taurus driven recklessly crashed into a stopped commercial truck on the southbound shoulder of Highway 99 near Fresno Street on Saturday evening — injuring its unbelted driver who was taken to a local hospital.  KMJ Now

CRIME NEWS

  • A man was arrested after a standoff on Sunday at 7 p.m. near Turner and Recreation Avenues in southeast Fresno when officers searched for a parolee who fled a Friday traffic stop—he pointed a gun at police, drove erratically, and rammed fences before surrendering, and he now faces charges for firearm possession, parole violations, and brandishing a gun.  Your Central Valley

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Fresno County crews are battling an active wildfire on Crane Lane in Squaw Valley that started Monday and scorched 10 acres while threatening nearby structures; deputies have issued evacuation warnings to Zone K73 North residents. PG&E is shutting off power as firefighters add engines and an air tanker to contain the fire (now estimated at 15 acres with a potential to grow to 100 acres).  GV Wire

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Fresno County’s Measure A was thrown out Monday by Superior Court Judge D. Tyler Tharpe—he ruled that state law preempted the county’s changes, allowing Sheriff John Zanoni and District Attorney Lisa Smittcamp to serve two extra years with elections pushed to 2028—County Supervisors will discuss potential next steps at a closed session meeting on June 10.  Fresnoland
  • Fresno’s mobile food vendors will need new city IDs to sell on sidewalks as the new ordinance takes effect on July 1—vendors with a business license and health permit can apply starting June 6. Officials say the IDs will verify that food is safe and vendors are properly permitted.  Fresnoland

  • A Fresno couple whose newborn, Bodie, has been diagnosed with a rare KCNT1 seizure disorder is raising awareness while he remains in the hospital and will host a fundraiser for the KCNT1 Epilepsy Foundation on Thursday, June 5 from 5 to 8 p.m. at FitnessSocial — 7060 N. Recreation Ave. #108 to support research and help connect with other affected families.  ABC30
