CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Fresno County courtroom turned chaotic on Thursday when a victim's son threatened convicted killer Joe Gomez Jr. during his life sentencing for murdering Israel Trevino Jr. outside a Parlier home in 2021, and the defendant stated he would file an appeal within 60 days (the judge denied a new trial request). - ➤ Two women will be arraigned on July 7 in Fresno County Superior Court for their alleged role in the 2024 shooting death of 19-year-old Aaliyah Bonman—prosecutors say the fatal incident began when a fight outside a Rite Aid escalated and a gun was discharged. ABC30
- ➤ Fresno police are asking for help finding those involved in the shooting death of 24-year-old Taylor Washington, who was found with multiple gunshot wounds near Bardell Avenue and George Avenue on April 25 around 5 p.m.—he was taken to Community Regional Medical Center and later died, and no arrests have been made. - ➤ Fresno State’s ag college received its first corporate sponsor when Fresno Equipment Company donated $20,000 to support expanding farm operations and new programs such as a wine business major. The nonprofit Ag One Foundation, which provides scholarships and resources for the college, said more corporate partners will be announced soon. GV Wire
- ➤ Fresno Unified School District will offer free summer meals for children ages 1 to 18 beginning Monday, June 16, serving meals Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 90 school sites—no meals will be provided on June 19 or July 4 due to holidays. GV Wire

- ➤ On June 5, Mayor Dyer said that without continued HHAP funding, Fresno would lose 247 shelter beds (including 30 youth beds), which represents 30% of the city’s emergency capacity. He stressed that the loss of funding would reverse progress made in supporting the unhoused during ongoing budget presentations by the City Council. KMJ Now
- ➤ New rules went into effect yesterday that limit Fresno’s smoke shops to seven per council district—cutting the total allowed to 49 and giving shops 30 days to comply with strict location and surveillance guidelines. City officials said raids had uncovered illegal cannabis, tobacco, firearms, and gambling operations, while some shop workers worry that compliant businesses will be hurt. KMJ Now
- ➤ Fresno has expanded its Lawn to Garden Rebate Program to offer extra cash for property owners replacing traditional lawns with drought-tolerant gardens—homeowners may receive up to $3,000 and businesses up to $8,000 while more than 100 applications have already been submitted.
