  • Today, nearly triple-digit heat is expected as the 35th annual Fresno Rainbow Pride Parade kicks off in the Tower District with a mile-and-a-half parade starting at 10 a.m.—local organizations, American Red Cross and Community Regional Medical Center, are providing cooling centers and nurse support while security remains in place to safeguard the 20,000 participants celebrating Pride.  ABC30
  • 83-year-old Diane Kanzaki-Reeves, a dedicated Fresno nurse who worked for 62 years, will celebrate her retirement this weekend with colleagues from nearly every hospital where she served—she plans to continue helping the community by volunteering at local institutions.   • Fraudulent calls are being made that appear to come from the Fresno Superior Court, with scammers claiming recipients face federal charges and must turn themselves in; court officials stress the court never makes calls about criminal matters (calls may be used to obtain personal information).  KMPH
  • A 32-year-old Salvadoran man, Helan Lopez-Sanchez, faces charges for being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition after he escaped from custody and was captured by a SWAT team at a Fresno hotel when a drone recorded him holding a rifle.  ABC30
  • A federal grand jury indicted 34-year-old nurse Jesse Zayas on six counts of health care fraud and aggravated identity theft for allegedly enrolling over 100 non-terminal patients in hospice from Fresno and Kern retirement homes—she served as CEO of Healing Hands Hospice and Humane Love Hospice—authorities say she submitted at least $2.5 million in false Medicare claims and was arrested last week after $77,000 in cash was found.  The Business Journal
  • Fresno Police are asking for help to identify the alleged killer of 24-year-old Taylor Washington who was shot on April 10 near Bardell and George Avenues in southwest Fresno, with investigators recovering multiple shell casings and vehicles with bullet holes in the area.  ABC30

  • A Cal Poly study finds that compliance costs on Fresno farms have surged over 1,300% since 2006. The report shows that new food safety, water quality, and worker training rules have driven up expenses — leaving many farmers worried as profits lag behind rising costs.  GV Wire
