- ➤ A crash on Trimmer Springs Road near Pine Flat Lake on Saturday at about 7:15 p.m. left one man dead and four others injured when Fresno driver Luis Estanga is suspected of losing control on a sweeping curve after driving at excessive speed and under the influence—he was airlifted to a hospital and later arrested for DUI and vehicular manslaughter charges. - ➤ CAL FIRE is battling the fast-moving Oak Fire near Prather and has issued evacuation warnings for residents near Lockwood, Morgan Canyon, and Country Oak roads. The blaze burned 30 acres of grassland before 5:25 p.m. and air tankers and helicopters are assisting ground crews — residents are urged to check official evacuation maps for updates. ABC30
- ➤ Cal Fire fought a fire near Prather that ignited Sunday afternoon along Morgan Canyon Road and Country Oak Lane and threatened 10 structures. - ➤ Immigration attorneys said ICE agents in plain clothes took two undocumented immigrants into custody at an ISAP check-in at the GEO Group office (764 P St.) downtown on Sunday morning. - ➤ Sixty days after Fresno County approved a new law to punish stealing copper wire, local law enforcement said thefts dropped by 82 percent from about 10 to 15 per week to fewer than 10 per month. The Sheriff’s Office will soon meet with more than two dozen investigators from four nearby counties to discuss similar rules — a plan meant to protect local farms, businesses, and taxpayers.
