  • Tiogaland brings Disney-style food to downtown Fresno this Friday, June 20 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. at 745 Fulton St.—local vendors will serve turkey legs, meat skewers, churros and a Dole Pineapple Whip with a twist—and admission is free.  GV Wire

  • Fresno restaurant Saizon on Shepherd and Willow was named one of the top state restaurants on the LA Times 101 Best Restaurants list, with chefs Brandon Smittcamp and Kevin Koligian also behind Heirloom+Butterfish. The review praised its Dungeness crab legs and flat-iron steak, and the restaurant quickly rose in local popularity.  ABC30
  • Randy's Donut Shop near Fresno State started with 7,000 donuts made in the early hours at a commissary kitchen run by head baker Raul Avila—who trained with the original team—while the shop makes flavors like Nutella and Matcha Tea raised and plans new spots in Clovis, Palm, and Bullard by year's end.  ABC30

CRIME NEWS

  • Clovis Police Department will conduct a DUI checkpoint tomorrow from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. at an undisclosed location to remove suspected impaired drivers from the road — officers use crash data to choose high-risk areas while the effort is funded by a state grant.  GV Wire
  • A teenage girl accused of acting as the getaway driver in the murder of 18-year-old Caleb Quick appeared in a packed juvenile courtroom on Wednesday where her attorney highlighted her clean record and sought her release (the judge postponed the detention decision until Monday) as prosecutors plan to present evidence soon.  ABC30

CULTURE NEWS

  • Fresno is preparing for Juneteenth with a flag-raising ceremony at City Hall and celebrations at River Park today, followed by an Ultimate Boots on the Ground Experience on June 20, a downtown parade, and a family fun day over the weekend — these events also include free entry to national parks and the Fresno Art Museum to honor Black culture and the history of freedom. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • New Cal Fire maps now mark moderate fire hazard zones in north Fresno and Madera counties, showing that areas along the San Joaquin River, near Valley Children’s Hospital and a range of homes, are at risk. County supervisors will hold a hearing on June 24 to discuss the maps, which affect building codes & property values.  Fresnoland

HEALTH NEWS

  • Today, New Life Recovery in Central Fresno hosted its first Narcan Education and Awareness event on Broadway Street — Nevada Avenue, where community members learned how to use Narcan and received certificates along with free kits from local partners. Co-founder Ben Milam explained that he was saved by Narcan and said the facility will hold the event every year to help save more lives.  ABC30
  • Clovis Community Medical Center in Central California has begun offering groundbreaking CAR T-cell therapy for cancer as Christine Quintero received the treatment for her large B-cell lymphoma. Doctors will treat five patients before seeking national accreditation to expand the new immunotherapy.  ABC30
  • Fresno will see the commercial debut of OpiAid’s smart wearable today—this device sends live updates every five minutes to doctors at New Perceptions North and other centers to track recovery symptoms like anxiety, withdrawal, and depression.  The Business Journal
