  • Police are looking for two men accused of an armed robbery at an AMPM gas station on Blythe and Herndon avenues in northwest Fresno just before 2 a.m. Thursday — masked suspects used a gun to demand cash from a clerk before leaving in a white sedan, and anyone with information is asked to call police.  KMJ Now

CULTURE NEWS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Gavin Newsom announced on Wednesday that Ashley Albertoni Sausser, Frank Ruiz, and Adam Ramirez were appointed as judges for Merced, Tulare, and San Joaquin counties to fill vacancies from retiring judges — Sausser replaces Judge Shelly Seymour, Ruiz follows Judge Brett R. Alldredge, and Ramirez follows Judge Jose L. Alva.  GV Wire
  • Fresno City Council approved a proposal to streamline home building in office zoned districts by removing ministerial approval, and the measure will be voted on one last time before final passage as the city seeks to regain its Prohousing Designation. The council also accepted a $1 million state grant for a Youth Job Corps homelessness pilot program and ended a commission for local cannabis tax oversight while city leaders held a Juneteenth flag raising at City Hall — showing the council’s broad agenda.  Fresnoland

  • Fresno County health officials said the new COVID subvariant NB.1.8.1, known as Nimbus, is spreading and causing a painful sore throat some call razor blade throat—its presence is confirmed through local wastewater tests.
