  • A new guide details many Fourth of July events for the Fresno area, including fireworks, pet fests, runs and block parties scheduled today through early next week — offering key times, locations and ticket information for local celebrations.  GV Wire
  • Fresno Housing transformed a former 98-room motel in the Parkway Drive corridor into Manzanilla Commons, a new 63-unit deeply affordable housing community in west Fresno celebrated on June 16. The $25 million project—supported by the Homekey program and local partners—offers studios to three-bedroom units with energy-efficient upgrades and community spaces.  The Business Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • Fresno law enforcement announced Friday that Operation Shock Collar charged 89 people for gang crimes including a 2017 homicide and arrests linked to the local Bulldog gang in Coalinga and Huron as over 550 officers from local, state and federal agencies worked together and officials warned other gang members may be next.  KMJ Now

ECONOMY NEWS

  • California is expected to see a $900M drop in tourism revenue, but Fresno County is countering this trend by emphasizing local drive markets and expanding its international air terminal, which will be fully completed this fall. Vanessa Puopolo from Visit Fresno County said the county also benefits from steady domestic flights and a strong local food and sports scene.  The Business Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Central Unified educators held a ribbon cutting on June 26 for Fresno’s first school named after a Sikh — Jaswant Singh Khalra Elementary School. The school will open in August for more than 600 preschool to sixth-grade students and was attended by over 100 community members including Khalra’s family and local leaders.  Fresnoland
  • Andres Navarro graduated from Farber Educational Center and got a job offer at Gap’s warehouse after learning hands-on skills in the Logistics and Warehouse Management Program. He will work full-time and study welding at Fresno City while his teacher Jonathan Hinojosa holds monthly support meetings—ensuring graduates receive ongoing career guidance.  ABC30

  • Family Health Care Network will host a free back-to-school health fair today from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at its clinic at 3425 N. First Street, where families can get health screenings, walk-in exams + free school supplies for the first 1,000 students.  The Business Journal

  • Fresno native Cedric Coward was drafted 11th overall by the Trailblazers — his rights were traded to the Memphis Grizzlies. The Central grad, who averaged a double-double in college, said he is ready to live out his childhood dream in the NBA.  ABC30
