  • Bank of America and Central California Food Bank announced a 48-hour triple-match donation campaign—set to run on July 17 and 18—to celebrate the food bank’s 33rd birthday and raise $30,000 for the Groceries2Go program. The five-year partnership will help provide fresh food to Fresno County neighbors facing food insecurity.  The Business Journal

  • DEA agents seized 24 pounds of Carfentanil disguised as prescription pills meant to look like oxycodone in Fresno during the July 4 weekend crackdown—officials warned that the deadly drug could lead to more overdose deaths.  ABC30
  • Attorney General Pam Bondi said during a news conference that DEA agents seized 24 pounds of carfentanil disguised as prescription pills in Fresno over the Fourth of July weekend as part of Operation Take Back America, and Acting DEA Director Robert Murphy warned that anyone selling these dangerous drugs will face full prosecution.  KMPH
  • Victor Cruz, age 40, a tax preparer in Bakersfield, pleaded guilty Tuesday in Fresno to helping an illegal Mexican national file fraudulent federal tax returns that claimed $25 million in refunds from November 2019 through June 2023—Cruz handled over 500 returns, earned thousands in fees, and faces sentencing on November 17 with a potential 10 years in prison.  KMJ Now
  • Fresno police arrested a 19-year-old on Tuesday after finding him asleep in his parked car near Marks Avenue and McKinley Avenue with a stolen handgun and another firearm not registered to him — officers retrieved both weapons safely and took him into custody.  Your Central Valley

  • Fresno Unified faces criticism as chief of communications Nikki Henry, who resigned last month amid an AI controversy, is offered a $162,000 settlement (designed to avoid litigation) that the Fresno Teachers Association says rewards alleged misconduct. The Board of Trustees will vote on the agreement soon.  ABC30

  • Fire crews are battling the Max Fire in the Blue Canyon area where, as of 7 a.m. Tuesday, the blaze burned 426 acres with 10% containment — campgrounds and zone K61 were ordered evacuated while doctors warned that poor air quality forced the cancellation of a three-day event at Camp Fresno.  ABC30
