  • Tuesday evening, Fresno firefighters rescued a 2-year-old from a running car outside Herndon Avenue KinderCare as the engine ran with the air conditioning on in 103-degree heat—officials warn that leaving children in vehicles can quickly lead to heatstroke.  GV Wire

  • Today, the vacant Joann Fabrics and Crafts store in north Fresno, empty since May and fenced off, will be demolished once permits are approved to make way for a new business site; several potential tenants have already expressed interest (35,000 square-foot property).  ABC30

  • Madera County detectives confirmed that 21-year-old Audrikk Matevosian murdered 75-year-old real estate professional Robert Boyajian on Saturday—after premeditating the act by purchasing a body bag and renting a vehicle—and later buried him in a cave in the Mojave Desert; Matevosian is set to appear in court today.  KMJ Now
  • A body was discovered in a canal near Virginia R. Boris Elementary School on Thursday morning when a community member fishing near Temperance spotted the partially submerged remains; Fresno Police Department—assisted by the sheriff’s office—is investigating the case.  Your Central Valley
  • A 21-year-old Clovis IT worker admitted to murdering realtor Bob Boyajian, a trusted Fresno native, on July 12 and is held on nine charges—he is set to be arraigned today at 1:30 p.m.  The Business Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Consolidated Irrigation District in southern Fresno County is proposing to raise land assessment fees from $55 to up to $126 per acre to fund projects that capture extra Kings River flood water and repair aging canals. A public hearing is set for Tuesday, Aug. 5 at 10:00 a.m.—at the Kearney Ag Station in Parlier where growers will cast their ballots in a Proposition 218 election.  GV Wire
