  • Fresno Mission Thrift reopened after a July 10 fire on Sierra Avenue that destroyed an estimated 100,000 to 125,000 dollars in donated clothing — the store now urgently seeks new donations and warns donors to avoid flammable items like garage tools and certain batteries.  GV Wire

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Three people were hospitalized on Wednesday afternoon after a head-on crash on Highway 180 caused by an impatient driver attempting to pass slower traffic (the highway patrol said all injured are expected to recover fully).  KMPH

  • Sanger police said 24-year-old Ethan Libby—arrested in May for allegedly abusing children—may have targeted additional minors near Washington Academic Middle School.  Your Central Valley
  • Michael Jacintho faced a Fresno County judge on Tuesday as he was accused of shooting and killing Sevastion Prado on June 19—prosecutors said Prado, the ex-boyfriend of his wife, was fatally shot during a dispute and a trial date has not been set.  KMJ Now
  • A mother (Whisper Owen, 36 year old) and her 8 month old daughter have been missing since July 15 after a doctor's appointment in Fresno; their family says her silver 2006 Chevy Trailblazer with front damage was last seen near Atwater and they ask anyone with information to call the sheriff’s office.  KMPH

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Plans for a new northwest Fresno Costco are on hold after a county judge rejected the project due to environmental concerns — the judge ruled the city's approval conflicted with state law. City officials said they will appeal the decision or consider rezoning to move the project forward.  KMJ Now

  • Local leaders and community members toured 17 energy-efficient affordable homes in Southwest Fresno on Wednesday morning at 35 E. Florence Avenue in an event hosted by Self-Help Enterprises where many homes were occupied, in escrow, or available for purchase.
