Good morning, Fresno. Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 29th of July.

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Fresno firefighters responded to a fire at the Fresno Mission on Sunday afternoon on Sierra Avenue between Blackstone Avenue and Highway 41, marking the third fire-related incident in recent weeks and working for about five-and-a-half hours to stop the blaze while no injuries were reported and the business remains closed on Monday.  GV Wire

CRIME NEWS

  • Fresno police confirmed that Cristino Paul Rocha III was arrested in Waco, Texas on July 22 for fatally shooting Paul Fierro on May 28, 2023 during a verbal altercation—more details about the arrest will be released today.  Your Central Valley

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Fresnoland’s investigation found that an Orange County company funneled over $15,000 to fund a PAC that paid a local consultant’s firm for misleading mailers to sway Fresno elections — records show that the same consultant’s firm later received a $100,000 government contract. Experts said the $1,000 fine for disclosure violations may not stop similar dark money tactics from being repeated.  Fresnoland
  • Fresno City Council approved two-year contracts with police and city management that include a 3% raise effective today and additional increases tied to tax revenue, costing $10.5 million for non-management staff and over $3 million in other raises. Mayor Dyer praised the reasonable negotiations while nine other union groups, including fire, are still working on deals (with hopes to resolve them within 90 days).  GV Wire

HEALTH NEWS

  • A Clovis doctor, Dr. Adam Ayham Rajoulh, had his license placed on probation for 35 months on July 23 after a review found he failed to provide proper care to a 74-year-old patient who died on January 22. He did not timely administer IV fluids or record key patient details—he must also pay $34,000 and complete required training until June 22, 2028.  Your Central Valley
