- ➤ Thirty-year-old Gilberto Santiago-Castro from Mendota pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 15 years to life for second-degree murder after his wrong-way DUI on State Route 33 on October 3 at 3 a.m.—which killed 22-year-old Benedo Alfaro-Vasquez—and his high blood alcohol level and prior DUI convictions contributed to the severe sentence.
