- ➤ 38-year-old Lavale Shawn Vean Jr.—from Madera—was sentenced on April 29 to 34 years to life for the 2017 murder of Roberto Ramos at a Fresno residence where he fired 16 rounds at 1:00 p.m., pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, and may be eligible for a Youthful Offender Parole Hearing after serving 25 years. - ➤ Fresno recorded one of its coolest Julys as July 2025 ranked as the 31st coolest in 45 years of records with only five days reaching 100°F+this is a significant drop from last July’s 22 days above 100°F. - ➤ Fresno Councilmember Brandon Vang is under review by the Fair Political Practices Commission after a complaint alleged he voted on a $100K road study near his home on California Avenue in southeast Fresno—a motion critics say may affect his property value. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board warned residents that a sample collected on July 30 showed E. coli levels above safety standards at Avocado Lake Swim Beach and the Fresno County Department of Public Health advised against swimming there until further notice — the agencies noted that while most strains of E. coli are harmless, high levels may increase the risk of illness and they will continue monitoring water quality. It remains the only local waterbody with elevated bacteria levels, so residents should use caution when visiting other lakes and rivers. The Business Journal
