- ➤ Community Media Access Collaborative announced 10 local filmmakers as winners of The Big Tell Film Contest and each will receive a $5,000 grant to produce a short documentary about a Central Valley story. The winners were chosen from 146 entries and will have three months to complete their projects + they will get mentoring and technical support from industry professionals. GV Wire

- ➤ The Fresno Fire Department said the third fire at Mission Thrift on Blackstone and Sierra on July 27 was accidental—no evidence of arson was found during the investigation. KMJ Now
- ➤ A woman was hospitalized after being hit by a car at Channing and Florence in southwest Fresno just after 8 p.m. Monday, and police suspect the driver was under the influence while traffic units investigate the incident. ABC30

- ➤ Fresno's Police Chief Mindy Casto—leading a tactical team against in-progress retail theft—said that Prop 36 enforcement has resulted in 287 felony charges in seven months while local retailers at River Park report a more than 50% drop in theft. ABC30
- ➤ Fresno native 39-year-old Matthew Dane Billingsley pleaded guilty Monday to a wire fraud charge for a scheme that tricked banks and lenders out of more than $30 million — he will be sentenced on Nov. 10 and faces up to 20 years in prison with a $250,000 fine. The Business Journal
- ➤ Jesus Eduardo Cardenas, a 27-year-old with black hair and brown eyes, is wanted on a felony warrant for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon — if anyone has tips, they are urged to contact Crime Stoppers immediately. KMPH

- ➤ California growers will produce a near-record almond harvest as the U.S. Department of Agriculture reported a 10% rise to a forecast of 3 billion meat pounds from last year's crop. The Almond Board will drive global demand efforts while export markets remain uncertain. The Business Journal

- ➤ Fresno County Supervisors unanimously approved Doug Sloan as county counsel, and he will begin his role on Tuesday, Sept. 2. - ➤ Fresno State professor Dr. Nupur Hajela is using grant funds to add innovative technology to physical therapy and expand health care in the Central Valley, bringing immersive virtual reality therapy and mobile outreach to serve Parkinson’s patients in rural areas.
