CRIME NEWS

  • Fresno man Salvador Reyna, age 44, was sentenced to 53 years to life for sexually abusing three minors from 2008 to 2014—he was convicted on four counts of committing lewd acts with a child and will be eligible for parole after 20 years.  KMPH
  • Salvador Reyna, a 44-year-old Fresno man, was sentenced Wednesday to 53 years to life in prison for grooming and sexually abusing three minors over six years — he will be eligible for elderly parole after serving 20 years.  GV Wire
  • 48-year-old Christino Rocha appeared in a Fresno County courtroom on August 6 without entering a plea as he faces murder charges for the May shooting death of Paul Fierro in Central Fresno — he was extradited from Texas after avoiding police with fake IDs for over two years and will return to court later this month.  KMJ Now
  • 39-year-old Matthew Billingsley pleaded guilty to wire fraud for defrauding lenders and financial institutions out of over $30 million between 2018 and February 2023—he admitted fabricating brokerage statements to secure loans and is set for sentencing on November 10.  KMPH

CULTURE NEWS

  • Global pop star Shakira will perform tonight at Valley Children's Stadium after crews transformed the football field into a concert venue. Fresno State officials and city teams have worked with Live Nation (the promoter) to set up extra parking (red and white lots) and water and medical stations for the event.  ABC30

SPORTS NEWS

  • On July 24, the under-14 Clovis Odyssey team captured the U.S. Club Soccer national title in Denver by winning 4—3 in a penalty shootout after a scoreless match through extra time. Coach Ben Lomeli, who recently stepped down, praised the team’s grit and the strong support from families that helped them overcome past setbacks.  GV Wire
  • Fresno State will rely on veteran defensive back Al'zillion Hamilton to lead its defense this season as defensive coordinator Nick Benedetto said Hamilton does all the little things right. Hamilton, who played in 42 games and is on the Jim Thorpe Award watch list, aims to record seven interceptions and 26 pass breakups+ his performance is expected to boost the Bulldogs' defensive scheme.  GV Wire
