ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A pedestrian on a mobility scooter was struck and killed by a semi-truck near Gates and Blythe just before 7 a.m. Tuesday in northwest Fresno—police say a community member helped locate the truck and the driver is cooperating with the investigation.  ABC30

CRIME NEWS

  • A Fresno family reported that they have not seen Whisper Owen or her 8-month-old daughter Sandra for 28 days after she left for Sacramento on July 15, and her car—missing a headlight and showing side damage—was last seen in Waterford with her phone pinging in Oakdale, prompting detectives to ask for any information.  ABC30

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Shakira held a concert at Valley Children's Stadium that drew 34,100 people, with about 9,700 coming from over 50 miles away and boosting the local economy by over $2.1 million—generating 320 hotel room nights. Local businesses saw increased spending as visitors dined and stayed in the area.  KMPH
  • Organizers of the 2025 Big Fresno Fair are holding a job fair tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. inside the Commerce Building (at the Fairgrounds on Chance Avenue) as they seek to hire hundreds of workers for roles including ticket sellers, janitors and security guards.  ABC30

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Fresno Mayor Jerry Dyer unveiled a new FAX bus route that will connect southeast to southwest Fresno. Route 29 will run along Church Avenue from Fowler to Walnut—passing Sanger West High School and Fresno City College’s West Fresno campus—to serve over 44,000 people and 8,000 job sites.  KMJ Now
  • Fresno officials broke ground Tuesday, Aug. 12 on the city’s first senior activity center located at a former Vons on 4343 N. Blackstone Ave. near Ashlan—a $41M investment that will create a 34,000 sq-ft facility with indoor and outdoor amenities for seniors and is scheduled to open in summer 2027, funded by Measure P, a Community Development Block Grant, park impact fees and the City’s General Fund.  The Business Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • A study from the American Academy of Pediatrics found that children under 6 ingested nicotine pouches 763% more often from 2020 to 2023—raising concerns about harm to young brains—so Dr. Rais Vohra at the Fresno County Health Department urged families to keep these products out of the home.  ABC30

  • Ethan Holliday, the Colorado Rockies' top prospect and No. 4 overall MLB Draft pick, made his professional debut with the Fresno Grizzlies Tuesday night against the Stockton Ports—he batted second and played shortstop after being assigned Tuesday morning.  ABC30
