ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A teenager was hospitalized with major injuries after being hit by a car while riding an E-bike in a Clovis neighborhood off Athens and Perry yesterday — police said the driver remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation.  ABC30

  • Southeast Fresno will see a new Burlington store open this fall in the former Big Lots building on Cesar Chavez Boulevard and Winery Avenue. The store, which will be the third Burlington in Fresno, will feature a new retail layout.  ABC30

CRIME NEWS

  • Fresno Police are intensifying the search for Whisper Owen and her 8 month old daughter Sandra McCarthy, who were last seen on July 15 driving a silver 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer spotted in Fresno, Oakdale, Atwater and Escalon—more than 10 law enforcement agencies are working together and ask anyone with tips to contact them.  KMPH

  • Travelers arriving at Fresno Yosemite International Airport are greeted by a new mosaic mural in the parking garage. The art piece 'We Have Arrived' was created by acclaimed artist Caleb Duarte—selected by the Fresno Arts Council—and reflects Fresno's cultural spirit and diverse heritage.  KMPH

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Fresno Unified introduced new resources for parents as students return to school on Monday, including an app for tracking buses and a chatbot for answering questions—while setting clearer academic and safety goals. Fresno police stressed safe driving and the need for volunteer crossing guards—efforts designed to keep school areas secure.  GV Wire
  • Fresno Pacific University received a $21.9M donation from King J. Richter on Aug. 12—its largest gift ever—to fund scholarships including the Alvina Richter, Elmer R. Richter Sr., and King J. Richter Scholarships. The donation is the second largest charitable gift in Central Valley history.  The Business Journal

  • The Fresno City Council will consider today a 21-year lease on a refurbished building at 2314 Mariposa Street for the police to move from an old headquarters with asbestos and outdated systems — and the city also faces a park naming dispute as some push to honor Jose Leon Barraza while a generic name raises concerns. State treasurer candidates Anna Caballero and Eleni Kounalakis are set to face a series of debates — as Caballero challenged Kounalakis to prove her commitment to working families.  GV Wire
  • PG&E completed the first phase of a $47 million electric distribution project in Clovis — work that increased capacity near Clovis East and South high schools ahead of the school start on August 18th. The upgrade will deliver more than 24 megawatts of new power for nearly 8,000 customers in East Clovis and central Fresno as demand grows.  ABC30
