CRIME NEWS

  • Fresno County authorities are seeking 43-year-old Bernadette Jeffaleo and Edward Enriquez after stolen credit cards were used at a Target in Clovis—both suspects were seen on camera and driving a white Volkswagen.  KMPH
  • A Fresno man with previous drug trafficking convictions is facing federal charges after a grand jury indicted him on counts of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and fentanyl and for possessing ammunition as a felon—Manuel Cisneros, 48, had drugs and .40-caliber rounds on Feb. 20 and was scheduled for arraignment Thursday amid investigations by Fresno PD and DEA.  GV Wire
  • A woman drove a Mustang that rammed multiple cars in a Fresno neighborhood on Thursday morning and was stopped by officers using a PIT maneuver—after she nearly hit an officer's vehicle.  KMPH

  • Fresno Unified has seen a rise in student absences as immigration raids have increased fear among families, with teacher Jose Sandoval noting that many students are staying home—potentially affecting district funding and support efforts.  Fresnoland

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Fresno and other California cities filed a lawsuit Wednesday to block new federal grant conditions—rules that could risk hundreds of millions in funding for housing, roads, transportation and public safety. City officials warned that without these funds, key projects such as airport improvements may be jeopardized.  KMPH
  • Fresno City Councilmember Nelson Esparza suspended his campaign for State Senate on Thursday and endorsed Assemblymember Esmeralda Soria, leaving her as the only candidate for Senate District 14.   • Fresno Yosemite International Airport is receiving over $20M in federal funding from the FAA to expand its terminal by adding 112,000 square feet of space. The expansion will include more airline ticketing counters — a concourse with boarding bridges and extra security screening checkpoint — and a new in-line baggage inspection system to improve travel flow.  ABC30

  • On Thursday, August 21, during Doc Talk, Dr. Vohra discussed fentanyl’s deadly impact—accounting for 70% of overdose deaths—and outlined Fresno County teams’ steps to help prevent overdoses.  ABC30
  • The FDA recalled Great Value frozen shrimp sold at Walmart along with brands Sand Bar, Arctic Shores, Best Yet, Great American and First Street due to possible radioactive contamination from Cesium-137—a byproduct of nuclear reactions. The recall affected products distributed from July 17 to Aug. 8 in nine states, and consumers are advised not to eat them.  ABC30
