COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Valley Animal Center held an 80s-themed Super Adoption Event on Saturday that rehomed 40 animals from over 200 available at the center. The event was part of Clear the Shelter 2025 and involved 16 animal shelters—giving local families a chance to adopt a pet.  KMPH

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A duplex fire in central Fresno on Saturday morning left 14 people without a home—fire investigators are still looking into the cause as the Red Cross helps the displaced families.  ABC30

CRIME NEWS

  • Fresno police are negotiating with a man suspected of attacking his wife in a northwest Fresno apartment—officers said the suspect, who has a domestic violence record, approached them with a deadly weapon and advised residents to avoid the area while they work to secure his arrest.  ABC30
  • A man was arrested for a hit-and-run crash on Highway 168 near McKinley Avenue that killed a 27-year-old motorcyclist just before midnight Thursday, and Fresno police say 33-year-old Julian Quinonez fled the scene in his Hyundai Elantra before being apprehended and booked on multiple felony charges.  ABC30
  • Police arrested 33-year-old Julian Quinonez on Friday after a hit-and-run on Highway 168 near Shields Avenue killed a motorcycle rider on Thursday night—he now faces charges of vehicular manslaughter and felony hit-and-run.  KMPH

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • California legislators will vote in September on Senate Bill 68 that requires restaurants to list common allergens such as peanuts, eggs, and tree nuts on their menus. The law would take effect on July 1 if signed and is designed to help people like 17-year-old Braxton Kimura who uses EpiPens to manage his severe allergies — easing risks when dining out.  ABC30
  • A CalMatters report showed California cities have very different rules for clearing homeless encampments—some have detailed guidelines while others have almost no rules. Fresno uses a risk ranking metric that scores encampments based on fire calls, violent crimes, and policy maker requests to decide the order of removal.  GV Wire

  • Kansas beat Fresno State 31 to 7 in Week 0 at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium as sixth-year quarterback Jalon Daniels threw for 176 yards and three touchdowns while Fresno State quarterback E.J.   • Fresno State lost 31-7 to Kansas today at the renovated David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium before 41,525 fans as head coach Matt Entz made his debut and the Bulldogs struggled with only 37 rushing yards against Kansas' 207.
