CRIME NEWS

  • Accused arsonist Bobby Salazar denied federal charges in Fresno court on Thursday including two felony arson counts and a new charge for having a firearm with an obliterated serial number—his detention hearing is set for 2 p.m. today.  GV Wire
  • Fresno police arrested 32-year-old Dehua Zou on Aug. 22 for posing as a law enforcement officer in a $30,000 courier scam — he was booked into Fresno County Jail.  GV Wire

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Officials said the Garnet Fire burned nearly 14,000 acres in the Sierra National Forest with no containment and prompted new evacuation warnings for zones including K74, K85, K160, and K32B—closures also affected McKinley Grove Road near Camp Fresno, Camp Fresno, and Dinkey Creek Campground. Fresno County declared a state of emergency on Tuesday and a special board meeting is set to take place today to ratify the proclamation.  GV Wire

  • Fresno Unified employee Charlene Cardoza, who was battling cancer, alleged that district officials conspired to force her out by issuing multiple written reprimands the Friday before her scheduled surgery.
