  • Pinky Paws Rescue in Selma is asking for community support to keep its 2.5-acre property amid financial struggles that include high veterinary bills and overdue mortgage payments—expenses that threaten its operations.  KMPH

CRIME NEWS

  • Bobby Salazar turned in his US passport to post a $1 million bond today for his release from Fresno County Jail and he faces arson and firearms charges after allegedly hiring a motorcycle club member to set fire to his namesake restaurant on Blackstone, with his next court hearing set for September 11.  ABC30
  • Thieves broke into 1st Class Auto Works in Fresno over the weekend and stole more than $80K worth of essential tools and equipment—two customer vehicles including a totaled Mini Cooper—with police investigating while the family launched a fundraiser to replace the items and reopen the shop.  KMPH

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A wildfire near Coalinga in Fresno County burned 5,000 acres and forced evacuations in Zone P25 with warnings for Zone P18 because strong winds and steep land make it hard to control. The Salt 14-2 Fire started Tuesday along Jacalitos Creek Road near Coalinga and was 5% contained as of Wednesday morning—200 workers, nine engines, one helicopter, two bulldozers, a dozen crews and 10 extra resources are fighting the blaze while investigators study the cause.  GV Wire
  • A lightning-sparked Garnet Fire in the Sierra National Forest burned nearly 30,000 acres in Fresno County and remains 12% contained—evacuation orders have been issued for zones K27, K28, K30, K31, K32A, and K40. Fire crews are working to protect Giant Sequoias and cool hot spots while managing strong winds that may spur further growth.  GV Wire
  • Firefighters are working at Fresno Air Attack Base today to fight wildfires raging in Central California and reload tankers quickly — the base has five loading pits, four storage tanks holding 100,000 gallons, and an Erickson Aero Tanker that reloads in seven minutes. Crews from CAL FIRE and the U.S. Forest Service are coordinating briefings to manage air drops effectively.  ABC30
  • The Salt 14-2 Fire near Jacalitos Creek Road near Coalinga has burned over 12,000 acres and remains uncontained due to strong winds and steep terrain—evacuation orders were issued for several zones while over 200 firefighters with nine engines and specialized units fought the blaze.  GV Wire
