  • Valley Center for the Blind will hold its Dining in the Dark event today at Fort Washington Country Club in Fresno, where participants will dine blindfolded for two of four courses to learn about challenges faced by those with vision loss.   • Former Fresno City College basketball coach Ed Madec lost his appeal after an administrative law judge upheld his firing for making alleged threats during class discussions—students testified that he intimidated administrators including Chancellor Carol Goldsmith, and his conduct was deemed unfit for teaching.  GV Wire

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Firefighters achieved 60% containment on the Salt 14-2 Fire that burned 25,580 acres near Jacalitos Creek Road in Coalinga and affected Fresno and Monterey counties since Sept. 2.   • Firefighters made progress overnight in containing the Garnet Fire in the Sierra National Forest, which burned 56,795 acres since Aug. 24 and forced evacuations in several zones.   • Fresno County leaders are weighing a Measure C change—studies show trucks cause as much road damage as thousands of cars—that could require impact fees from truckers to help fund road repairs and ease the tax burden on residents.
