  • Hundreds of Fresno community members gathered at Eaton Plaza by the historic Water Tower on Saturday for the 20th Annual SoberStock to protest fentanyl abuse—organizers said they honored past losses and urged recovery efforts to save lives.  KMPH
  • Young kids from ages six to 17 will show off their creative business skills at The Children’s Business Fair during Clovis Fest in Old Town Clovis, where they will sell crafted items and share plans for using their earnings. Siblings Isabella and Isaiah Camacho, who created Jewels of Joy, will participate—boosting local interest in youth entrepreneurship.  KMJ Now
  • Marjaree Mason Center will host its 42nd Annual Top Ten Professional Women Awards luncheon—set for October 15th at 11:00 a.m. at the Fresno Convention and Entertainment Center—which will benefit local professional women and community programs. David Carr will moderate a conversation with keynote speaker Rachel Baskin—an abuse survivor and local deputy district attorney—who will share her experiences and outlook.  ABC30

  • Starbucks closed five Central Valley locations—four in Fresno and one in Visalia—last week as part of its $1B turnaround plan that will shut down 500 stores and cut 900 nonretail jobs to improve financial performance.  The Business Journal
  • Dutch Bros is teaming up with clothing brand LONELY GHOST for a Halloween collaboration and will offer limited-edition stickers when a drink is purchased tomorrow at 5 a.m. at any location; a LONELY GHOST themed drink will debut on October 6 and its apparel will launch online—available while supplies last.  KMPH
  • Mineral King Publishing—owner of The Sun-Gazette and Mid Valley Times—will expand its footprint on Oct. 1 by adding three local newspapers, The Kerman News, Firebaugh-Mendota Journal and West Side Advance. The move will increase its total to seven weeklies to help strengthen local journalism.  The Business Journal

  • BLARE Media, a Fresno production company, will premiere the romantic comedy mockumentary 'An American Abroad' at the historic Crest Theatre on Oct. 3. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.—the screening starts at 8 p.m. with a live Q&A to follow.  The Business Journal
  • Fresno NBA star Jalen Green said he honors his Filipino heritage and sees it as a key part of his identity on and off the court. The Phoenix Suns guard explained that support from fans in the Philippines and locally boosted his confidence and inspired his recent back-to-school giveaway — reinforcing his pride in his roots.  ABC30

  • The FresnoCOG Policy Board tabled a $150,000 contract with Best Best and Krieger to implement Measure C—a half-cent tax renewal—as the Steering Committee works on its final recommendations. Clovis Mayor Vong Mouanoutoua said it was too early to hire because issues over secret meetings and a pending complaint remain unresolved.  The San Joaquin Valley Sun
  • Shaw Avenue between Blythe and Cornelia is closed nightly from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. through Oct. 3 for High Speed Rail construction—drivers are advised to follow detour routes.  ABC30
  • Local leaders and poverty-fighting groups will present a plan on Thursday to study a public bank for Fresno that will use local tax funds to boost small business loans and support community projects—experts say it may improve access to capital in underserved neighborhoods. The proposal, based on a model used in other states, aims to keep money in Fresno instead of directing funds to large national banks.  Fresnoland
