  • Fresno’s Grand Rising, a wellness day party that swaps alcohol for cold brew and community vibes, will take place Saturday at Invictus Ink on Broadway where organizers will host a 5K/10K run starting at 8:15 a.m.—the event will offer new vendors, fun activities and an updated food and beverage lineup with tickets starting at $6.  GV Wire
  • The Big Fresno Fair is using a clear bag policy to boost safety and is partnering with Fresno Police and a private firm to monitor four main entrances and patrol inside using AI. The fair will enforce youth admission rules every Friday and Saturday after 7 p.m.—attendees under 18 must be with an adult aged 21 or older.  ABC30
  • Yesterday, thousands visited the Big Fresno Fair at the fairgrounds to enjoy family fun, food and entertainment. The fair offered $5 admission, multiple food stands and a main carnival that opened at 4 p.m. as Joan Jett and The Blackhearts performed at 7 p.m. — a new bag policy was in effect.  ABC30

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Family and friends of 15-year-old Nathan Torres, who died after being hit by a car while riding his bike Monday night in Fresno, are hosting a car wash fundraiser on Saturday, October 4 at First—Belmont Avenues to help pay for his funeral and cover additional costs.  KMPH

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Sequoia Brewing Company will reopen its North Fresno location on Oct. 10 at 11 a.m. with a ribbon cutting ceremony hosted by the Fresno Chamber of Commerce. A second location in the Tower District is expected to reopen soon—led by local business leaders who aim to honor its traditions while introducing new flavors.  The Business Journal

  • Rock legend Joan Jett and The Blackhearts kicked off the Table Mountain Concert Series last night with a powerful performance that drew fans from across the Valley—she performed iconic hits like Bad Reputation and I Love Rock and Roll as the event launched the 2025 lineup sponsored by Modelo Especial and Toyota.  KMPH
  • The Fresno Chaffee Zoo received two awards from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums after a recent conference; its Kingdoms of Asia exhibit won the Top Honors Exhibit Award — while its Co-exist with Wildlife, California campaign earned the Advocacy Impact Award.  ABC30

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Critics said that funds from Measure P—a Fresno sales tax meant to improve parks and arts programs—have not reached South Fresno, leaving many parks in poor condition even after seven years since its approval. At Monday’s city council meeting, community members argued that the money is benefiting other areas instead of the high-need neighborhoods as promised.  KMPH

HEALTH NEWS

  • Community Health opened the 154-bed Burnett Extended Care Center downtown to offer long-term and short-term skilled nursing care with physical, occupational and speech therapies — the renovated facility cost $35.5 million and will begin accepting patients this fall to help reduce emergency room wait times.  GV Wire

  • The Fresno State Bulldogs will host Nevada Reno at Valley Children’s Stadium on Oct. 4 at 7:30 p.m. after a 23-21 win over Hawaii; Head Coach Matt Entz said the team had a focused Bulldog Week — a time when they prioritized teamwork — and they will use a strong defense to counter Nevada’s rushing attack led by quarterback Chubba Purdy.  The Collegian
