- ➤ The Big Fresno Fair brings back the rodeo today after 30 years following the end of live horse racing, and over 60 competitors from across the country are set to vie for a $100,000 purse from 4 to 6 p.m. at the fairgrounds—this change honors long-held traditions while offering local fans a new experience. - ➤ Communities across the Central Valley will host many Halloween events throughout October such as pumpkin patches, haunted trails, trunk or treats, and film nights at local parks and community centers in Fresno, Clovis, and Sanger. - ➤ Fresno City College’s West Fresno campus is launching an art project that will create a ceramic quilt installation to preserve local history by collecting old photos and stories from local families. The team of educators and artists is gathering images until mid-October and will complete the design by December—planning a celebration in February 2026. Fresnoland
- ➤ Fresno State University Theatre is hosting Lorraine Hansberry’s play 'A Raisin in the Sun'—a powerful story of dreams and struggles—as part of its 2025-26 season at the Dennis and Cheryl Woods theatre, with performances from Oct. 3-11 starting at 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $5 to $20 and the cast features Fresno State students, local actors, and alumnus Kenny Umeh as Joseph Asagai. - ➤ California officials said ballots dropped off at distant post offices may not receive a Nov. 4 postmark due to USPS changes—voters are urged to vote early by using official vote centers or asking for a counter stamp. - ➤ F-15 fighter jets from the California Air National Guard’s 144th Fighter Wing intercepted a simulated Temporary Flight Restriction violator near Fresno Air National Guard Base on Sept. 30, 2025—coordinated with NORAD King Air and a Civil Air Patrol Cessna to show system readiness. Officials said the drill underscored airspace security ahead of the upcoming Olympics. KMPH
- ➤ The city of Fresno will begin overnight paving work Sunday night on Shaw Avenue between Blythe and Valentine avenues as part of the Pave More Now initiative. The work will run from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. until Oct. 24 and will include grinding, paving, utility access adjustments, striping and traffic loop installations (drivers may face lane reductions and intersection closures). - ➤ Health care workers from the United Nurses Association of California/Union of Health Care Professionals delivered a strike notice to Kaiser Permanente executives and plan to start a strike on Tuesday, Oct. 14—over 31,000 union members will protest stagnant wages and unsafe staffing at hospitals in California, Hawaii, and Oregon. - ➤ Fresno State quarterback E.J. Warner improved his play with five touchdown passes and no interceptions and will lead his team today at Valley Children’s Stadium against Nevada as the Bulldogs deal with injuries and penalties. - ➤ The Fresno State Taekwondo Club kicked off its first official year as a club sport with practices at Carter Taekwondo in Clovis last Tuesday. The team plans to train on Tuesdays 7:30—9 p.m. and Sundays 3—5 p.m. and will compete in intercollegiate tournaments in the future. The Collegian
