COMMUNITY NEWS

  • At Fresno City Hall Council Chambers on Monday night, community members spoke about the distribution of Measure P funds through the Cultural Arts Grant Fund. Some praised the current process while others called for more oversight and fairness—further discussions are set for October 14th.  KMPH
  • On Saturday, October 4th, 2025, 30 firefighters—including two from Fresno County and one from Kern County—were honored at Capitol Park during the California Firefighters Memorial Ceremony, which was attended by nearly 1,000 people and featured flyovers and live music.   • The Fresno Area Hispanic Foundation will host a ribbon cutting Friday, Oct. 10, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 943 E Street in Chinatown to celebrate the grand opening of Fire Foods Meal Prep—a delivery service founded by Enedina Neves offering healthy meals for busy locals.  The Business Journal
  • The PM Lounge at Cedar and Nees avenues in north Fresno is a members-only club that will offer a steakhouse menu, a golf simulator, a wine room, and a stage for entertainers—designed for those seeking a high-end dining and leisure experience.   • Carol Padilla Shaath is a Latinx educator in Fresno with nearly 20 years of experience who inspires students to embrace bilingual education and cultural pride—she uses her family heritage to encourage enrollment in dual language immersion schools and help overcome low college completion rates among Latino students.  KMPH

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Madera County officials are removing the invasive Arundo donax to lower flood and fire risks along waterways such as the Fresno River; the work started last week and will continue until March 2026 with help from River Partners — a free program for local landowners.  The Business Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A judge ruled that the lawsuit accusing Eastern Tule of not paying its share to fix the sinking Friant-Kern Canal will move forward with trial set for Dec. 22 in Tulare County Superior Court. The ruling means Friant may later sue individual landowners or water districts if it proves Eastern Tule breached a 2021 deal—raising concerns for local growers.  GV Wire
  • Fresno County officials turned on a $2.4M traffic light at Fowler—Olive in southeast Fresno last week after 10 months during which drivers used temporary stop signs; local drivers report that the new signal has improved traffic flow and safety while the city of Fresno will maintain it going forward.  GV Wire

  • Photographer Kiana Hernandez—owner of Kiana Shoots and Self-Love Club Boudoir—is offering free photo sessions to women battling cancer in Central California to help them feel confident and supported during treatment.  KMPH
  • West Nile virus has killed four Californians in 2025, including one in Fresno County and others in Tulare, Kings and Butte counties. Health officials warn that residents should use insect repellent and wear long sleeves to avoid mosquito bites — measures that help reduce the virus spread.  GV Wire

SPORTS NEWS

  • Fresno and Manteca athletes won several gold medals at the 46th Silver State Senior Games held in Las Vegas. Fresno’s Gurbax Singh earned two gold medals in hammer and weight throws, Sukhnain Singh won gold in the long jump, and Manteca’s Darshan Singh along with Fresno’s Kulwant Singh claimed multiple golds in running and field events—demonstrating a strong regional performance.  KMPH
