- ➤ Five-year-old Xiomara Garcia rode an adaptive bike for the first time on Wednesday thanks to local donations and the Bicycle Thieves Project; she has wanted to ride since a hit-and-run left her paralyzed at age two. Her bright smile showed her excitement as she finally pursued her dream with a bike she controls using her arms. KMPH
- ➤ Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central California is asking 10,000 men to become mentors because thousands of kids have waited for a caring role model. The group has 140 spots open and asks volunteers to spend about 2 hours a month — a step that comes with Governor Newsom’s new challenge. ABC30

- ➤ Sequoia Brewing Company held a ribbon-cutting ceremony yesterday as it reopened under new owners Second Growth Brewing LLC—introducing four new drinks on tap and quality-of-life changes—after closing during the pandemic. The brewery was known as Butterfield Brewing when it opened in 1989 and had shut down after its owners retired in 2020. KMPH

- ➤ Fresno Music Academy and Arts in the Tower District has launched Rock Lab where six months of lessons and rehearsals are giving new bands a chance to grow, and the groups will perform at Summer Fox Brewing on November 16 — a date that shows more students joined than expected. The program, which requires intermediate skills and teacher recommendations, has helped many students boost their confidence in music. ABC30
- ➤ Good Company Players will perform the classic Broadway musical My Fair Lady in Fresno's Tower District—actor Roger Christensen explained that the show promises fresh energy for fans of the timeless production. ABC30

- ➤ Clovis High’s Marching Band and Color Guard will perform at the 2027 Rose Bowl Parade and the school is asking for donations to fund the trip (their last Pasadena visit was in 1986). KMPH
- ➤ Fresno State will open a new Dunkin' Donuts in the lower level of the University Center on October 21st, replacing the Taco Bell Express space. The restaurant will offer a full menu from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays + it will hire 25 to 35 student staff. KMPH
- ➤ The California Department of Education lowered the test score standard Thursday—Fresno Unified now shows 60% of students meeting English language arts and nearly 52% meeting math compared to the earlier 37% and 27% scores. Local district data, however, reveal that current scores still fall short of pre-pandemic levels. GV Wire

- ➤ Fresno was granted $100 million from the state for downtown improvements — new street lights, water and sewage lines, sidewalks and two parking garages are planned to boost housing and business. Mayor Jerry Dyer said construction on the first parking garage will begin in December and work on the second is planned for February, with another $100 million expected next year. ABC30

- ➤ RH Community Builders announced it will continue managing the recuperative care shelter on N. Blackstone Ave after Soul Housing abruptly laid off staff and planned to close the facility; the site remains open for roughly 250 patients while insurance claims keep funding care + local providers offer support with future plans calling for a new shelter to open early next year. - ➤ Fresno County health officials urge residents to protect themselves from respiratory viruses as flu activity stays low now but is expected to rise this fall. They are partnering with UCSF Fresno and St. Agnes Medical Center to offer mobile clinics—especially in rural areas—to improve access to the flu vaccine. ABC30
