- ➤ MEC Aerial Work Platforms held a ribbon cutting yesterday at its Kerman headquarters for the new 8,000-square-foot Engineering Center of Excellence, where nearly 200 employees joined the event. The state-of-the-art center will drive design improvements and train team members and customers—fueling growth and safer work practices. The Business Journal
- ➤ Michael Viramontes, owner of The Lavatory, said his Fresno-based firm now offers luxury restroom trailers for weddings, events, and disaster relief after starting in oil and gas work. - ➤ Drivers in northwest Fresno must plan ahead as crews begin repaving First Street between Bullard and Sierra starting Oct. 20, with work occurring overnight that will reduce lanes and temporarily close the intersection at First and Bullard. The project includes manhole work, grinding, repaving and striping through Oct. 28 to 29 (the schedule may change with weather delays). KMPH
- ➤ The Fresno Police Department is urging parents to talk with their teens about safe driving habits as National Teen Driver Safety Week will run from Oct. 19–25—this advice comes as teen car crashes remain a leading cause of death and officials warn against speeding, texting, and not wearing seat belts. - ➤ Fresno has opened applications for its 0% down-payment assistance program for low-income homebuyers, offering up to $100,000 in forgivable loans to buyers who meet income and education requirements—borrowers must not have owned a home in the last three years and homes must be located within city limits. The program is funded by the California Department of Housing and Community Development and will forgive the loan after 15 years, with repayment due only if the home is sold. GV Wire
