CRIME NEWS
- ➤ The U.S. Forest Service has opened the Garnett Fire area to volunteers today to aid in the search for Ron Dailey, a Selma man who went hunting near Shaver Lake on October 13th and did not return home—his family noted he left without his diabetes medication, heightening their concern. ABC30
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The annual Tarantula Awareness Festival took place yesterday at the Coarsegold Historic Village from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.—local tarantulas emerged to mate and were showcased to explain their important role in the ecosystem despite their scary looks. KMPH
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Merced College is launching a California Law Pathway program next semester to give students hands-on mentoring, coursework, and a certificate that eases the route into law careers—this effort comes as local prosecutors remain in short supply and partners like Fresno City College and Fresno State join the initiative. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Fresno County warned CalFresh recipients that their November benefits may be delayed because the federal government has not approved needed funds amid the shutdown—October benefits remain available. The county will share more updates as federal decisions are made. The Collegian
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ United Health Centers opened a new 13,050 square foot center—located on East Cesar Chavez Boulevard—that now offers medical, dental, behavioral, chiropractic, x-ray, lab and women’s health services as of Friday. KMPH
- ➤ Over 1,500 people joined the Central Valley Heart and Stroke Walk on Saturday morning in Fresno—raising more than $242,000 for the American Heart Association to help fight heart disease and stroke. The 5k event united survivors and supporters in a joint effort to improve heart health. KMPH
