COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Pinky Paws Search and Rescue spent over 20 hours tracking Daisy after the loyal dog left 84-year-old Paul Schutte’s side when he was hospitalized for a stroke. Daisy was found in Firebaugh 16 days later using trail cameras, scent items and a thermal drone — and she was reunited with her family.  KMPH
  • Today, Mayor Jerry Dyer and Councilmember Tyler Maxwell have launched Fresno Box Art, a pilot program that will turn twenty traffic control boxes in District 4 into colorful public art by local artists and community members. The program has an open call for proposals and is part of the city’s Beautify Fresno 2.0 effort.  KMPH
  • The City of Clovis unveiled a new public plaza honoring longtime civic leader Peg Bos in a private ceremony held Wednesday morning at the corner of 3rd Street and Sunnyside Avenue. The event included a flag-raising by police and fire honor guards and celebrated Bos’s pioneering role in local government — a fitting tribute to her legacy.  KMPH

  • The Fresno Bee removed its local opinion section after McClatchy laid off its top opinion writers - Juan Esparza Loera and Tad Weber. The move follows a trend of reducing local staff as the paper shifts opinion content to writers from other McClatchy properties.  The San Joaquin Valley Sun

  • On November 5th, Aram I—head of the global Armenian Church—visited Fresno State and prayed at the Armenian Genocide Memorial in remembrance of over 1.5 million victims. He stressed the need for justice and unity while urging youth to preserve their history and shape a more engaged future.  GV Wire
  • The Armenian Museum of Fresno is hosting an exhibition called 'The Healing Art of Victoria Khatcherian' that displays artwork created before 1907 which survived the Armenian Genocide. The show runs free through January at the University of California Center (550 E. Shaw Avenue) and features gift items whose sales help preserve the art.  KMJ Now

  • Retailers are announcing major holiday sales ahead of Black Friday as shoppers, squeezed by tighter budgets, begin buying essentials early—Amazon's Fall Prime Big Deal Days now sets the pace for savings. Consumer expert Vipin Porwal of Smarty said customers are comparing prices and seeking cashback offers on electronics and clothing, with more discounts expected during holiday clearance events.  ABC30

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Fresno County Superintendent of Schools software engineer Blake Fullerton was named one of six developers to win the NVIDIA Golden Ticket Award—given for his work on Ariel Intelligence, an AI-powered drone system for spotting threats—after he attended the Global Technology Conference in Washington D.C.; he said his award shows how Fresno innovation plays a key role in national technology trends.  The Business Journal
  • Sanger teachers said they were blindsided when district officials applied for a waiver on a law requiring 55% of budgets for classroom teacher salaries, and they now question how funds meant for teachers were spent. District officials argued the outdated law does not reflect modern educational needs while 16 Fresno County districts submitted similar waiver applications (Oct. 28).  GV Wire

  • Farmer Bryce Loewen’s Reedley organic farm uses minimal till to boost soil health as natural vegetation grows between rows and sweetens the fruit. He plans to add sheep to graze and hopes to reduce Johnson grass + maintain productive soils in the years ahead.  GV Wire

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The FAA announced that due to the government shutdown, flight capacity will drop by 4 percent on Friday and reach 10 percent over the weekend at 40 major airports, including key hubs in California—San Francisco, Oakland, LAX, and San Diego—leading to thousands of cancellations and delays. Fresno Yosemite International Airport said travelers can expect more delays and advised them to check with their airlines for updates.  ABC30
  • The Fresno Economic Opportunities Commission—serving over 100,000 residents—will furlough 639 workers at more than 40 centers across Fresno County starting Jan. 1 due to a lapse in federal funding amid the ongoing government shutdown. The planned furlough is expected to be temporary but may affect key poverty-fighting programs as federal funding remains uncertain.  Fresnoland

  • The Fresno State Bulldogs lost 67-66 to the USC Upstate Spartans, dropping their record to one-one on a seven-game homestand after an 88-51 win over Fresno Pacific.
