- ➤ Fresno homeless shelters are closing and more than 100 beds will be lost by year’s end while another 331 beds will shut by June due to funding cuts, leaving nonprofits to scramble for money. - ➤ Local restaurateur Jimmy Pardini opened Willow Osteria on November 7th at Willow and Shepherd avenues in Clovis, serving Italian dishes with fresh pasta and wood-fired meats. Chef de Cuisine Nestor Herrera leads a team of cooks—26 line cooks, 10 prep cooks and 10 dishwashers—while the restaurant offers dinner service from 5-10:30 p.m. six days a week and plans to add lunch and daily service later. - ➤ Luz Gonzalez, who helped start the Fresno State South Valley Campus nearly 50 years ago, leads over 1,000 local students in Visalia and plans to retire later this year. The campus offers programs in criminology, law enforcement and nursing while a new University Center—fully funded by Measure C—is set to begin construction in January. The Collegian

- ➤ The new Clovis Transit system launched on Monday with eight interconnected routes serving key stops like Clovis Community Hospital and local high schools+ riders can text for live bus times. - ➤ Dr. Gabriel Rivera from Kaiser Permanente Fresno said lung cancer is the second most common cancer and causes one in five cancer deaths mainly due to long-term smoking.
